Pitch for the fiction.

Title:
Genre: Thriller
Target audience: 15+

A fast paced psychological thriller with a twist. It plays on the gender stereotypes of society in order for the twist at the end. It miss leads the audience into thinking one thing before revealing a twist.

Research

After I was given the initial project I then brainstormed ideas of fiction and the ideas I came up with are

Thriller
Comdey
Web series
Drama

After coming together we decided that the ones we had most in common were Thriller and Comedy.

Comedy
Comedy's are very popular, so we thought that it would be a good idea to make a comedy as many people are familiar with the way it works and everyone in the group understands the formula.

Thriller
We also agreed on thriller as it would be a fun thing to experiment with as well as the fact that it's also a genre that everyone is familiar with.

After dilberation between the both we decided to go with a thriller since there are so many comedy's already and it would also be to hard to stick to the formula such as a laughing track.

second project brief

2nd Project: Fiction

20% of Final Assessment (Total video part of module = 50%)

Guidance and notes are still relevant from Project One, but this time you will write, schedule, recce, prepare both a storyboard and shot list, shoot and edit a short drama, 3 to 5 minutes long. You will need to shoot lots of cover, pay great attention to camera placement, improving the quality of your recorded sound over the first project and constructing sequences that will edit together effectively. Also you may want to consider use of music (but not throughout), graphics (which can be very effective during a fiction piece to set the scene, identify characters, to establish that time has passed etc) and possibly voice-over.

The finished piece must contain at least one scene of sync dialogue and also at least one internal and one external location. It can be serious, a comedy, a mockumentary, a thriller or any fictional genre but it cannot be an MTV-style music video (ie shots cut non-sync over a music track)

You will need to give careful thought to who your actors are going to be. Use mates who are willing to be actors (especially if they are on the Performing Arts degree here) or, as a last resort, members of your own crew (this can be tricky though, they will have a lot to do on camera and sound, organising the shoot, organising props costumes, etc). Often students on the DMU Performing Arts degree are keen to acquire a showreel ie examples of their acting. But be very clear from the outset what their commitment will need to be in terms of availability and time.

Remember

Fiction is about involving your audience and also about change. A good drama scene is one which is convincing and also where things are not the same at the end of the scene as they were at the beginning.

Running order

Originally there were going to be two interviews however, once both interviews were filmed we realised we had too much content to put in a three minute documentary. Therefore we decided to use the interview which had the most detail which was alex gibbons.

This is the interview of Megan, which we then realised that the framing was wrong as it was too dark and the mic is in the shot meaning it was not useable. This was also our screen test for her.

Group Decision.

After consulting the group we narrowed it down to alcohol and inspirations.

Alcohol:
Initial Idea:
We could talk to people who drink and who don't drink to get both perspectives.
We could show people coming out of clubs
footage of the amount of alcohol in shops
shop keepers: how much they sell.

Research:

http://www.drinkaware.co.uk/
http://www.nhs.uk/Change4Life/Pages/understanding-alcohol.aspx
Conclusion: Too much to talk about in 3 minutes.

Inspire:
The influences of people and how it effects their lives.
Talk about different inspirations for example, film, books, music.
Cut aways- of people acting in their hobbies.

Research

http://www.motivateus.com/stories/

After talking we chose inspiration because we felt it hasn't really been done before and it would be good to put our own mark on the subject rather than doing alcohol as it's been done many times and it wouldn't be very original.

Initial ideas.

At first I brainstormed ideas for the documentary on my own before I discussed it with my group.
The ideas I came up with are the following:

Student accommodation
Alcohol
Partying
University life
book to film adaptations
Beauty
Food habits
addictions.

Documentary brief.

The task we were given was to get into groups between 4-5 and create a documentary between 2-3 minutes long. We were told to use anything an inspiration.
